I am attracted to objects and environments based on formal, historical, and emotional references.
My artistic practice relies upon a sequential processes to distill a visual vocabulary from my emotional response to various subjects.
Progressing from the inspiration taken from my personal narrative, I employ traditional processes of; staging photoshoots, stitching multiple selections into a digital panoramic image, warping scale and perspective, and then applying either drawing or painting mediums. The resulting focal image creates a tactile expression of the feeling I want to communicate to the viewer through a selected subject.
By projecting or combining altered or enhanced digital imagery with a variety of media such as pastels, oils, or encaustic I am able to procure a varied, aesthetic surface that visually and viscerally references locations and objects that correlate my sentiments.
“The only way of expressing emotion in the form of art is by finding an “objective correlative”; in other words a set of objects, a situation, a chain of events which shall be the formula of that particular emotion …” -T. S. Eliot
